Kayak Loader
The automatic kayak loader is designed to load kayaks or any cargo up to 100 lb. on top of motor vehicles.

It is exceptionally helpful when loading cargo onto high vehicles like motorhomes and campers where it otherwise is a two person job.
Constructed of high tensile aluminum the loader is light, strong and rust free. All moving parts of the loader are maintenance free and require no lubrication.

Many people are using our kayak loaders to load kayaks on top of todays popular SUVs and mini vans.

How it works

Two rope clips attached to an aluminum tube (equalizing bar) are connected to a pair of u-bolts (or loading straps) which are fastened to the side of the boat. When loading a kayak, the clips attach to the side closest to the vehicle. Energize the winch and the boat is lifted vertically until the equalizing bar comes in contact with the loading arms.

If the ground is uneven or the boat unparrallel to the vehicle, the equalizing bar will compensate for any differences which may have occurred up to this point.

Once both loading arms recieve contact with the equalizing bar, the arms are pulled equally in a circular motion until they come to rest horizontally on the main frame of the loader. When the loader arms pivot on the main frame bearings, the boat is flipped and gently placed on the saddles (optional) or loading arm.

Reverse the direction of the winch by pressing the rocker switch reverse button and the cargo is first lifted over the side of the vehicle then lowered gently to the ground. Disconnect the rope clips and the boat if free and ready to use. Energize the winch again until the loading arms are horizontal and you are ready to use the vehicle as usual but without the kayak.

The vehicle battery or an auxilary battery supplies the power for the purpose of loading and unloading the boat. The rocker switch supplied for the energizing of the 12volt winch motor should be mounted in a location easily accessible when loading and unloading the cargo. A 50amp thermal breaker is supplied with the loader to protect against electrical shorts and overloading of the winch motor.

Though not a part of the loader kit, remote control switches may be purchased to provide the user with more mobility when loading or unloading on windy or uneven conditions. These options are seen on the product options page of the web site.

Tying down the kayak is accomplished from the ground on the side of the vehicle the boat was loaded from. Two lines fastened to the far side of the main frame of the loader are passed over the top of the kayak as it is midway up the side of the vehicle when loading. As the kayak continues loading and then is finally resting on top of the vehicle, these lines are then hanging down along the side of the vehicle. Fasten the lines to the main frame eye bolts of the loader on low vehicles. On high vehicles such as campers or motor homes, two eye bolts are fastened to the side of the vehicle for the tying off of the two safety lines. There is no need to climb on top of the vehicle to secure the kayak.

Installation

For shipping purposes, the loader comes in a compact box supplied with assembling instruction. Most people can get the loader assembled and on the vehicle in one day. The loader does not come with a roof rack for your vehicle but was designed to bolt or clamp to an existing rack.

When changing vehicles, simply unbolt the loader and place it on top of the vehicle now requiring the loader. The same loader that is fitted to a SUV can be attatched to a camper or motorhome to load your kayak. There is no need to purchase a new loader for the change in vehicle. All that is required is a rack to bolt the loader to.

Though designed to load kayaks, this loader has many uses. Any cargo that weighs less than 100lb and is able to be fastened to the equalizing bar may be loaded, for example wind surfers, ladders, ski boxes etc. < /td>

Kayak or Canoe Loader ?

The automatic canoe loader is much the same as the kayak loader with the exception of the loading arm. The canoe loading arm is longer than the kayak loading arm to allow more room for the wider canoes. Extra wide kits can be custom made to accomodate the new pontoon boats that are popular today with the fly fishermen. When loading canoes, the equalizing bar is fastened to the side of the canoe farthest away from the vehicle it is being loaded on. When the canoe reaches the loading arms it is flipped onto its gunnels and comes to rest on top of the vehicle upside down.
